Invincible #126

At last, we reach the end of my run on Invincible. This is the last issue I colored, which coincided with the end of the "reboot" story arc. Not much else to say, really. Looking back on this issue, I think I see why the rest of the team decided to go with a different colorist. At this point, my coloring style was moving in a different direction, and I think I was starting to lose the plot. I just got carried away with following some sort of vision that was at odds with the style they were looking for.

Of course, this is all speculation. Whatever the case, I see a lot of pages in this issue that I'd like to go back and fix. That said, I feel the same about a LOT of the work I've done in the past. ;)

Anyway, enjoy!

1/6th scale Barbarian

Here's a model kit I did a while back (the Barbarian by Fantasy Realms). This was my first resin kit, so there was a lot of learning done along the way. The building part of the kit was simple enough-- as it was basically all just one piece, plus the base and a few accessories-- however, the quality of the casting left much to be desired. It took a ridiculous amount of grinding, filing, sanding, smoothing, puttying, and even sculpting, until I eventually just gave up and moved on to painting. That part was fun.

Anyway, enjoy a few pictures!

Nebula

Among my many hobbies and interest, I also dabble in music. A while ago, I decided to get a bunch of retro synth plug-ins for Reaper and get to work on actually writing something. So, here is the result!

This is the first piece of music I composed, and I only had the vaguest idea of how Reaper worked when I started. I also knew next to nothing about mixing and mastering. As a result, this was absolutely trial-by-fire, with many tutorials watched along the way. That said, it was also immensely fun!

Anyway, please enjoy this piece of 80's synthwave style music! (Oh, and the video is just a bunch of free wallpapers I threw together in Windows Movie Maker.)

Invincible #124 & #125

Time to post some more Invincible stuff! We're nearing the end of my run on the book, so hang in there. ;) Looking back on these pages, I'm shocked at how clean my rendering was here. Guess I've been going more "painterly" for so long that I completely forgot.

Anyway, enjoy!

Green Valley #2

So, I recently found out that I got an Eisner Award nomination for my colors on Green Valley. I have to say I was pretty shocked, but it's still nice to know all this hard work is being noticed. Let's celebrate the occasion by sharing some pages from issue 2!

This was a pretty tough one, since at this point I was still figuring out how to handle this book, while at the same time trying to keep things consistent with the first issue. Looking back, I think it turned out rather well-- it could be among my favourites of the series. Heck, it was hard to limit myself to my usual 5 pages, so that's always a good sign!

Enjoy!

NieR: Automata's 2B

I recently played NieR: Automata, and I absolutely loved it. It's a beautiful, sad, amazing, and mind-blowing game. Furthermore, I have a huge crush on 2B, so I whipped up a quick sketch in her honor. Glory to Mankind.

Entirely done in Photoshop. Enjoy!

Green Valley #1

Last summer, I started working on Skybound's Green Valley. I'm just about to wrap up the 9 issue mini-series now, so I thought I'd share some of my colors-- let's start with the beginning, shall we?

As usual, I used a different approach for this book, but I quickly started to regret it. The problem is that I colored a sample page before anything else, which is standard procedure. However, this was a very simple page, so I foolishly used a very lavish and time-consuming method. While it looked good and impressed the rest of the creative team, it also meant that this project would be a massive time-sink, since more complicated pages would take far too much time to color. Even though I eventually streamlined some of the steps involved, and got more comfortable with the style over time, I still had to keep the look consistent throughout the series. All this complaining to say that this book has been really rough on me. With that in mind, people seem to like it, so I guess it's paid off.

Anyway, enjoy some choice pages from the first issue!

Invincible #121, 122, & 123

What better way to start the new year than with some old Invincible pages? Move towards the future by living in the past! To be fair, most of the stuff I post here is months if not years old, since I can't keep up with my actual work pace. Oh well!

Anyway, here are some choice pages from the next 3 issues in the series, the last of which marks the beginning of the "reboot" arc. Not much to say, really. At this point in the series, I was sitting comfortably sitting in my groove, but I slowly started to experiment and change up my approach-- which might not have been so wise, in hindsight.

Anyway, enjoy!
